WIFT-T Is Proud To Announce The 2016 Media Leadership Program Participants
TORONTO, January 18, 2016 – Women in Film & Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) revealed today the 15 participants selected for the 2016 Media Leadership Program – a Schulich School of Business Certificate Program presented in partnership with Bell Media.
“WIFT-T is dedicated to championing gender equality at every career stage; the Media Leadership Program is designed to take media experts to the topmost tier,” said Heather Webb, Executive Director, WIFT-T. “We are thrilled to shine the spotlight on this year’s 15 ambitious industry professionals, who reflect the diversity and uniqueness of our industry’s best.”
The participants were selected for their strong business acumen and demonstrated career development: Susan Alexander (Production Executive, Original Drama Content, Shaw Media); Suzanne Chapman (Production Executive, Cineflex); Kristen Colle (Independent Producer/Story Editor); Maria Farano (Director of Original Progamming, Women & Family Television, Corus Entertainment); Cheryl Grossman (Manager, Business & Rights, CBC); Laura Heath Potter (Director of Communications, CTV/Bell Media); Nahid Islam (Head of Post-Production/Post Producer, Breakthrough Entertainment); Lori McIndoe (Director of Finance, Breathrough Entertainment); Kathleen Meek (Production Executive, Drama & Feature Film, Independent Production, Bell Media); Jamie Piekarz (Director of Content, Corus Kids, Corus Entertainment); Shannon Skinner (Independent Producer, Comfy Chair Productions); Linda Stregger (Industry Consultant, Tax, PwC); Karen Thompson (Head, Business Affairs, Smiley Guy’s Studios & iThentic); Rosemary Thompson (Director of Communications/PR, National Arts Centre); and Caroline Voitovici (Production Manager, TVOntario).

Tailored to provide screen-based professionals the knowledge and tools they need to become strong and effective leaders, the participants will attend 56-hours of intensive, industry-focused professional development training. The Media Leadership Program offers a unique immersive learning experience that combines business school teaching from Schulich MBA faculty with best practices from high-level industry executives. The program covers key business principals including: business communications, leadership skills, strategic and critical thinking, financial management concepts, rights and regulations, and marketing.
“Schulich’s business programs are regularly rated number one in Canada and globally,” said Trina McQueen, industry veteran and Adjunct Professor in the school’s Arts and Management department. “These participants will meet the best thinkers in their fields; and have access to top media executives as well.”
Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Schulich School of Business. The Media Leadership program runs Fridays and Saturdays monthly from January to May 2016. This program is offered on a biennial basis.
