2009 Crystal Awards Call for Nominations
Nominations are being accepted for the 2009 Crystal Awards. The Crystal Awards recognize the extraordinary achievements of women in film, television and digital media. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, September 30, 2009, by 5pm EST.
WIFT-T invites its members to nominate an exceptional candidate, with a minimum of 10 years experience in screen-based media. The 2009 Crystal Award categories are:
• Outstanding Achievement Award
• Creative Excellence Award
• Mentorship Award
Nominate worthy candidates by completing the 2009 Crystal Award nomination form (available at www.wift.com). An independent jury of past award recipients will select the Crystal Award winners for 2009. Award winners will be honoured at the 2009 Crystal Awards gala luncheon on November 30, 2009 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

WIFT-T Business Management for Media Professionals | Fundamentals of Media Business Administration: Industry Overview
The WIFT-T Business Management for Media Professionals Program is a compilation of six courses, each consisting of three Saturday classes. It is recommended for working professionals with up to three years experience in the industry, related university or college training and for those transitioning to a new area of the business. Participants who complete all courses receive a certificate from Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology.

WIFT-T Convergent Media Program
The WIFT-T Convergent Media program is designed to provide members of the screen-based industry with an overview of the convergent media landscape; the trends, the opportunities and the impact on the industry. Through eight in-depth sessions, participants learn how to plan and implement cross-platform projects, while remaining focused on how to monetize and manage new content. Program participants also work in groups to develop cross-platform content ideas from concept to pitch. All sessions run Thursday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM.

WIFT-T Feature Film Writing Workshop
This two-part writing course provides an introduction to the major elements of feature film screenwriting, including the development stages of a screenplay. The program also provides in-depth analysis of the major elements of feature film screenwriting.

WIFT-T Women Writers Workshop
The WIFT-T Women Writers Workshop is for intermediate women screenwriters who want to develop treatments or drafts in an intimate environment, supported by other female feature film writers. Please note all treatments are shared with workshop participants.

Bata Shoe Museum
SKETCH at the Bata Shoe Museum
The Bata Shoe Museum is hosting a display of the top Blundstone boots from “Boot it Up”- A Fashion and Visual Arts Fundraising Celebration to Support SKETCH - Working Arts for Street-Involved and Homeless Youth For the fifth annual fundraiser, forty pairs of Blundstone boots will be decorated by local artists and celebrities. These unique and outrageous boots will then be sold at auction to raise funds for SKETCH. The top 20 boots will be displayed at the Bata Shoe Museum from September 1 - 22.

The Caribbean Tales Youth Film Festival Celebrating Black History Month is back for a second year and is calling for submissions.
The Caribbean Tales Youth Film Festival Celebrating Black History Month, launched in February 2009. It screens classic and contemporary Africentric films, aimed at high school and university students and educators.
The Festival presents a unique selection of films and documentaries from and about the African diasporas and represents a broad range of experiences that celebrate and educate on the richness and diversity of African heritage.
Its aim is to deepen audiences' understanding of Canada's vibrant multicultural communities.

Humber School for Screenwriting
This 14-week, online program offers, interactive approach to screenwriting for feature film writers of all levels. Script material will be reviewed and critiqued on a one-to-one-basis by experienced faculty of story editors, all industry professionals. At the same time, students will be mentored and learn to refine their craft by participating in the online workshops and discussions led by an accomplished industry professional. The course is divided into two-week blocks with each block focusing on a specific aspect of screenwriting: concept, plot, structure, conflict, character development, tone, pacing and dialogue. Humber encourage all participants to take part in the course work but the emphasis will always be on student’s own writing.
The program is customized to address the strengths and shortcomings of individual scripts. Students will work on their script material at their own pace and be individually assessed on their ability to handle the major elements of screenwriting.

Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival
Open Call for Submission - Toronto Reel Asian Film Festival "So You Think You Can Pitch?" Competition
The 4th annual collaboration between the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival and Charles Street Video pitch competition is back!
Ten brave teams of finalists will present their pitches in front of three judges and a live audience. Two winning filmmaking teams will walk away with prize packages that will help them kick-start and/or finish their short film. The two prize packages of over $10,000 for the Emerging Category and $18,000 for the Established Category cover high definition or standard definition production and post services, artist’s fees, and a one-year membership at Charles Street Video (CSV).

Women of Influence
Women of Influence is looking for a female videographer to collaborate on a special project. Women of Influence Inc. is an events marketing company that produces the Deloitte Women of Influence Luncheon Series to inspire and connect professional women in Canada. We are looking for videographers in Calgary (September 25, November 12), Ottawa (October 14), Montreal (October 16), Vancouver (November 18), Edmonton (November 10) and Waterloo (October 29). The event is held from about 11am – 2pm.
We are proposing a contra marketing agreement, whereby the videographer would contribute their time in return for marketing exposure to the Women of Influence Luncheon Series audience and database. Access to the database would be available to you online at the events you are taping. Database demographics can be provided to you on request, but include 24,000 professional, influential and affluent women.
