The Business of Product Placement (in TV and Film)

Presented by Women in Film and Television - Toronto

Instructor: Marina Cordoni, Maz Entertainment (more...)

The Business of Product Placement is an interactive workshop that explores increasing production revenue streams through the creative vision and placement of sponsored products and services. Learn how the new wave of marketing and advertising can work by understanding your prospects, targeting appropriate sponsors and providing benefits that create a win-win situation for all.

TV and Film Executive Marina Cordoni will take you through the how, the what and the why of Product Placement with first hand experience and valuable trade tools.

The workshop includes:

  • mini presentations
  • specific learning modules
  • and interactive exercises to provide a heightened learning experience.

Target Audience:

This course is intended for media professionals including producers, distributors, network executives, and ad sales executives with at least 3-5 years experience.

Those who really will benefit from this program are people who are familiar with client management, sales (of any kind) and have participated in negotiating. This program will also be useful for someone wishing to enter the field. The program is an ‘introduction’ to the business of product placement, helping those that have not dealt with sponsorship and used to the different approach/style of negotiation.

For over a decade, Marina Cordoni has excelled in her career as a senior distribution, production and sponsorship executive, responsible for sourcing financing and securing revenues on diverse Film and Television properties.

She developed her solid media career in the UK in the late 80’s, working with high profile companies including the TV and Film divisions of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Virgin Communications.

She first joined PolyGram in 1993, where she was instrumental in the launch of the new TV division created to develop market and sell PolyGram features and television programming worldwide.

Cordoni then crossed over to PolyGram’s Film Division where she was successful in securing financing for some of the biggest independent movies of recent years, including the award winning features “4 Weddings and a Funeral”, “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”, “Fargo” and “Dead Man Walking”.

Returning to Canada in the late 90’s, Cordoni has since worked on diverse TV productions with top US and Canadian talent, garnering financing and sponsorship monies. Her passion for lifestyle programming resulted in a strategic partnership with top Toronto based lifestyle producer General Purpose Pictures (“Holmes on Homes”, “Save us from our House!”) where she is responsible for seeking sponsorship and developing product placement opportunities for consumer companies. Her relationships include top Canadian retail companies such as Sleep Country, Electrolux/Frigidaire, Black & Decker, Umbra and ICI Paints.

Cordoni also remains active in international programming distribution. In early 2006 she formed an alliance with established Toronto based producer/distributor Breakthrough Entertainment, where as a Distribution Agent she is responsible for the growth and sales of their dedicated TV Movies division.
