2006 NBC Universal Development Incubator

Women In Film and Television – Toronto, in partnership with Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation, is pleased to present the 2006 NBC Universal Development Incubator. The Development Incubator is an initiative designed to develop market-driven feature films and support the next generation of Canadian feature film professionals. This initiative will provide five emerging and intermediate producer and writer teams, with feature length dramatic projects in development, with an opportunity to work with consultants and select industry advisors in a series of small group sessions to advance their projects through one draft of their script and to prepare preliminary marketing packages.
2006 NBC Universal Development Incubator - Call for Applications

WIFT-T is pleased to announce the winners of the NBC Universal Development Incubator. Presented in partnership with NBC Universal, Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation, this national initiative is designed to develop market-driven feature films and support the next generation of Canadian feature film professionals.
The program provides five emerging and intermediate producer and writer teams, with feature-length dramatic projects in development, the opportunity to work with consultants and select industry advisors in a series of small group sessions to advance their projects through one draft of their script and to prepare preliminary marketing packages. The successful candidates were selected by a jury of industry representatives.

The NBC Universal Development Incubator will include additional programming. These workshops, which will take place following the program this summer, are open to the general public and WIFT-T members. Please watch the WIFT-T website at www.wift.com for details on the Women’s Writer’s Workshop.This workshop will target emerging women screenwriters who have a detailed outline or treatment, and are working on the first draft of a feature script. The Feature Film Writing Program will be a three-part refresher course that will take writers through the elements of developing a feature film script. Components will includeFeature Structure, Character Development and Dialogue.
Successful Candidates will receive the following:
• An overview course on Elements of Story
• An U.K. Development Executive will provide an overview of development and financing for feature films in the U.K. through case studies
• Producer and writer teams will have their writer matched up with U.K or national story editors to polish high potential Canadian scripts
• Industry case studies on development, co-productions and financing
• A session on how to package their project and create pre-sales marketing materials
• Producers will have opportunities to connect with established professionals and financiers through pitches and case studies on Canadian – U.K. co-productions
• Complimentary attendance at vital CMP [centre for media professionals] workshops including: Elements of Story, Professional Story Editing, Women Writers Workshop, as well as a three-part course on Feature Film Writing
Eligibility:
Candidates must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for consideration:
• Canadian citizen
• Independent producer
• Must have at least one feature film or long-form project in development
• Must be able to prove ownership of the project
• Projects cannot be written by the producer, and treatments will not be accepted
• Must have signed agreement from writer to participate in Development Incubator
• Must have at least two producing credits for feature films, television movies, short films, television series, television one-offs or documentaries.
• Must have a minimum of five years professional experience in the industry
• Must be able to participate in all workshops as well as commit to working with a story editor during stated time frames
• Must submit all materials stated on the application form
