1) Documentary and Lifestyle Project Development and Financing - July 12, 19, & 26, 2005
Instructor: Felice Gorica, with Stephen Hunter, Kit Redmond, and Kip Spidell
In this 3-part course, instructor Felice Gorica takes the class through the process of developing documentary or lifestyle programs, from development of the idea through writing the proposal to financing the project. With industry guests, case studies, sample documents, and exercises, attendees will learn the development skills to put their ideas into production.
Instructor: Felice Gorica
Felice Gorica is a producer with over 15 years experience in the television industry. Since founding her company Gorica Productions in 1997, she has initiated and produced an impressive slate of high-quality documentaries and series for world-wide broadcast. Projects range from topics as diverse as secret agents during World War II, to the social and political problems facing Asia. Current projects are documentary series in the areas of history and science and lifestyle series on travel and adventure.(More . . . )

July 12: Stephen Hunter of Cineflix will discuss the development of programming ideas with an eye on the international market. Cineflix is a Montreal-based production and distribution company dedicated to non-fiction programming.
July 19: Kit Redmond of RTR Media discusses pitching and proposal writing. RTR Media is a production company committed to lifestyle and reality brands and was founded by Redmond, Debbie Travis and Hans Rosenstein in 2003.
July 26: Kip Spidell of Ellis Entertainment will explain how production companies can find North American and international financing. Ellis Entertainment is a leading international producer and distributor that focuses on factual based programming.
2) Producing Documentary and Lifestyle Programs - August 17, 24, & 31, 2005
Instructor: Fraser Steele, with Stan Lipsey (Vice President, Head of Production, Red Apple Entertainment), Michael McMahon (Executive Producer, Primitive Entertainment), and Cindy Witten (Vice President, Programming for History Television, Alliance Atlantis Communications)
From pre-production to wrap-out, producing a documentary or lifestyle is a complex and daunting task. Creative, technical, and business elements must all work harmoniously to ensure successful completion. Through case studies, sample budgets, cash flow, and reporting, this 3-part course offers an insider's take into making all the right things happen during production.
Instructor: Fraser Steele
Workshop leader Fraser Steele has over 30 years of experience in film and television. He has done it all from editing to directing, production management to producing. He has worked with the CBC, CTV, NFB, and TV Ontario. Recent credits include co-producer and director of Business in the New Millennium, Production Supervisor and Manager of Business Affairs for White Pine Pictures, and lately Business Consultant for Paradigm Pictures. Extremely knowledgeable on the business of film and TV, Fraser has taught several courses and workshops on Producing, Development, and Production Management.

Projects range from topics as diverse as secret agents during World War II, to the social and political problems facing Asia. Current projects are documentary series in the areas of history and science and lifestyle series on travel and adventure.
Before starting Gorica Productions, Felice worked in television network programming and production for numerous years. Her career began after graduating from Ryerson University with a degree in television.
Felice is also a frequent lecturer at colleges and universities on the business of television and is the author of the television bible: “Canadian Television Financing: The Buck Starts Here”. She is also one of the co-chairs of the Documentary Organization of Canada.
