This hands-on, practical course will provide producers with the skills and strategies they need to create compelling interactive content for their television project. Producers will be introduced to emerging trends in interactive content and receive hands-on step-by-step guidance on transforming traditional properties by adding compelling interactive components, along with case studies from industry experts.

Richard Kanee has worked at CHUM Television's Interactive Department for over six years. Responsible for extending the company's well-known brands and content across all new media platforms, Richard has overseen the development of iTV, EnhancedTV, wireless services, on-line games and exclusive Internet properties. Most recently, Richard has been responsible for executing CHUM Television's mobile strategies, including the launch of shop.muchmusic.com, mobile video-on-demand, premium text messaging and the MuchMusic branded handset.

Patrick Crowe, Producer, Xenophile Media
Writer and producer Patrick Crowe has worked in partnership with Thomas Wallner through Xenophile Media since 2001. He is also the key consultant to the OMDC's business development program Pioneering Content, producer of artist Sarah Diamond's Code Zebra 3D chat software, a frequent speaker on interactive and convergent media events (Banff World Television Festival, American Film Institute), and teaches in the School of Communications Arts at Seneca College.

This course will provide television producers with effective strategies for identifying funding opportunities and seeking financing for their broadcast/new media projects. Lectures, case studies, exercises, and workshops will guide participants through developing a budget and financing plan, honing an interactive treatment and pitch, and identifying sources of funding. Learn from industry insiders who is funding new media projects today, what is being funded, and when to pitch for success.

A Partner and Producer at marblemedia, Matt is responsible for leading creative teams to execute both television and digital media projects including deafplanet.com, thisisdanielcook.com, Burnt Toast Interactive and the A Pairing of SwanS DVD-ROM. Matt is an active member of the industry, guest lecturing alongside business partner Mark Bishop, at the Canadian Film Centre, WIFT-T, and Seneca College, and also acts as a curriculum advisor of new media at Centennial College. For two years he co-taught the third year new media class for Ryerson’s School of Radio and Television Arts. He recently served as a jury member of the OMDC/nmba administered Pl@tform fund. He is a member of the New Media Business Alliance (nmba), the Alliance for Children and Television, the Canadian Film and Television Production Association, and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. He is also a Sagittarius and an only child, for which no membership dues are required. Matt has been nominated for three Gemini Awards: for both Best Interactive and Most Popular Website in 2004 as producer of deafplanet.com and for Best Picture Editing in 2001 on the Rhombus Media project, Crossing Bridges, which he also co-produced. Mark Bishop, Partner/Producer, marblemedia
As President and co-founder of marblemedia, Mark plays a key role in developing both television and interactive projects and is responsible for building strong relationships with broadcasters, content developers, technology partners, and investors. Mark is currently heading up production of three marblemedia projects: This is Daniel Cook Season 2 for web, TV, and DVD and A Pairing of SwanS, an interactive educational DVD being co-produced with prima ballerina Veronica Tennant. Recently, Mark oversaw production of Season 2 of deafplanet.com for both web and TV, deafplanet.com Sports Village (a sports-themed extension to the deafplanet.com site), and Season 1 of This is Daniel Cook, co-produced with Sinking Ship Productions. Mark frequently guest lectures with Matt at Ryerson University, the Canadian Film Centre, WIFT-T, and Sheridan College. He has also acted as a curriculum advisor and instructor of new media at Centennial College and Ryerson University. Mary Barroll practices business law with an emphasis on entertainment, technology and intellectual property. She obtained her B.A. (1984) from the University of British Columbia, her Broadcasting Arts Degree (1986) from Mount Royal College and her LL.B. (1994) from Queen's University. In 2000, she joined Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. as Director of Business and Legal Affairs for Broadcasting. Mary also worked as in-house legal counsel to the Canadian Television Fund, a national organization that finances television productions. She was a member of the HorizonZero National Task Force, a committee composed of media industry experts commissioned to report to the Ministry of Canadian Heritage and the Banff New Media Institute on the strategic plan for an online portal and e-zine dedicated to support of arts and culture in Canada and the author of the Task Force’s report. She was commissioned by the Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund to develop a series of annotated legal agreements to educate new media producers about the legal and contractual issues that arise in cross platform new media projects in Canada published in January 2005. She was called to both the Ontario (1996) and Alberta (1997) Bars. Mary is currently completing her Masters of Law degree specializing in E-Business at Osgoode Hall Law School.
