WIFT-T Announces the 2007 CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship and Call for Applications

Women in Film and Television - Toronto (WIFT-T), in partnership with CBC Television, is pleased to announce the 2007 CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship Award and Call for Applications.

This national competitive award will give one emerging Canadian female filmmaker the invaluable opportunity to take a comprehensive week-long workshop at a designated CBC location. The winner will be given the opportunity to establish business and mentoring relationships with CBC Drama staff, and will be guided through various production and broadcast components of short film. Topics and areas of exploration will include: project management, financing film and television production, marketing and distribution, and emerging technologies and the impact of technology on content. The mentorship will begin in January 2008. The winner will be announced at the 2007 Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon held on December 3, 2007 at the Fairmont Royal York.

The award winner will receive the following:
• Comprehensive week-long workshop, at a designated CBC location, where the winner will be given the opportunity to establish business and mentoring relationships with CBC Drama Staff, and will be guided through various production and broadcast components of short film. Topics and areas of exploration will include: project management, financing film and television production, marketing and distribution, and emerging technologies and the impact of technology on content (Mentorship to begin in January 2008)
• $1,200 Programming Pass to use for any professional development programming
presented by WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals
• Award presentation at the prestigious Crystal Awards industry gala on December 3, 2007

Candidates must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for consideration:
• Canadian citizen, landed immigrant or permanent resident
• WIFT-T member (may join at time of application)
• May have up to two hours of produced screen credits, although screen credits are not required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Available to attend programming presented by WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals
• Available to attend award presentation ceremony at the 2007 Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on December 3, 2007
• Able to re-locate to Toronto during time period of the mentorship at own expense
• Must complete Final Report

Application forms are available from the WIFT-T website at www.wift.com. Fully completed application packages must be submitted by Thursday, November 8, 2007, 12 noon EST. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of industry representatives with final decisions announced in November 2007.
