Associations - Guilds - Unions

Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television: The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television is a national non-profit professional association designed to promote, recognize and celebrate exceptional achievements in the Canadian film and television industries.  

ACTRA: ACTRA is a national organization of 18,000 Canadian performers working in the English-language recorded media: Film, Television, Video and all other recorded media.

The Alliance for Children and Television: The Alliance for Children and Television works to enrich children's television experience by increasing the quality and quantity of Canadian programs intended for them, in cooperation with youth programming creators and crafts people.

Canadian Association Of Broadcasters (CAB): The CAB is the national voice of Canada's private broadcasters, representing the vast majority of Canadian programming services, including private radio and television stations, networks,and specialty, pay and pay-per-view services.

Canadian Film & Television Production Association (CFTPA): The CFTPA is a non-profit, trade association representing almost 400 Canadian production companies involved in television, film and interactive media.

Canadian Media Guild: The Canadian Media Guild is a democratic trade union, duly recognized and certified under federal and provincial labour legislation.

Canadian Satellite Users Association

Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC): The CSC promotes the art and craft of cinematography and provides tangible recognition of the common bonds that link film and video professionals.

Canadian Women in Communications: The mandate of Canadian Women in Communications is to enable, encourage and recognize women in the communications industry.

CRTC: The CRTC is an independent agency responsible for regulating Canada's broadcasting and telecommunications systems.
Directors Guild of Canada (DGC)

Documentary Organization of Canada : DOC (formerly known as the Canadian Independent Film Caucus) is a national non-profit professional and advocacy organization dedicated to support the art of independent documentary filmmaking and filmmakers in Canada.

Guild of Canadian Film Composers: The Guild of Canadian Film Composers is a national association of professional composers and music producers for film, television, and new media.

I.A.T.S.E. (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees)

Independent Media Arts Alliance: The Independent Media Arts Alliance is a national association of independent film, video and new media producers, distributors and exhibitors.

IMAT - Interactive Multimedia Arts & Technologies Association
: IMAT provides industry research, professional development, marketing, promotion and international trade opportunities for the New Media industry.

LIFT, Liaison of Independant Filmmakers of Toronto
: The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto supports and encourages independent filmmaking through the exchange of information and access to equipment and facilities .

NABET 700 (National Association of Broadcast Employees & Technicians)
: NABET 700 CEP is a union of film and television technicians.

NFB (National Film Board of Canada)

Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC)
: The OMDC's responsibility is to build capacity and competitiveness of Ontario's cultural media industry, individually and across the sectors and to provide opportunities that encourage business alliances across the cultural industries.

The Women in the Director’s Chair Workshop (WIDC):
WIDC is a critically acclaimed, national professional development program that advances the leadership and practical story-telling skills of mid-level women screen directors. With senior industry mentors and professional actors and crews, participants test original material in a safe learning environment.

Visual Researchers' Society of Canada (VRSC)

Writers Guild of Canada (WGC)

The Toronto District School Board Continuing Education: Screenplay Writing Workshop (Course Code #367) The mechanics of film writing, from the initial idea for the script to the outline, the treatment, and, finally, to the screenplay, working on plot, structure, and dialogue.

York University - Film and Video Studies

Astral Media The Harold Greenberg Fund: The Harold Greenberg Fund is a national private funding agency established by The Movie Network and Astral Media to contribute to the creation of quality Canadian movies.

Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund
: The Bell Fund invests in the development of new media projects associated with television productions.

Bravo/Fact (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent)
: Bravo!FACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) distributes grants for the production of shorts across Canada.

Canada Council for the Arts
: The role of the Council is to foster and promote the study and enjoyment of, and the production of works in, the arts.

Canadian Independent Film & Video Fund
: The Canadian Independent Film & Video Fund (CIFVF) is a private sector non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting the development of the non-theatrical industry through the creation of films, videos and new media projects.

Canadian Television Fund (CTF)
: The CTF is a private-public initiative with two distinct, yet complementary programs: the Equity Investment Program (EIP) and the Licence Fee Program (LFP).

Canadian Audiovisual Certification Office (CAVCO)
: The Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) co-administers the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit (CPTC) and the Film or Video Production Services Tax Credit.        

Cogeco Program Development Fund:
The COGECO Program Development Fund encourages the development of new Canadian drama by Canadian writers to be produced by independent Canadian producers, primarily for private sector broadcasters, in English or French, or preferably in both languages.

Independent Production Fund
: The Independent Production Fund funds dramatic series.

National Film Board
: The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is a public agency that produces and distributes films and other audiovisual works which reflect Canada to Canadians and the rest of the world.

Ontario Media Development Corp.

: The Shaw Television Broadcast Fund is a permanent, independently governed, not-for-profit corporation which provides financing for the production of high quality Canadian children's, youth and family television programming.

Telefilm Canada
: Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to the development and promotion of the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial support to the private sector to create Canadian productions that appeal to audiences domestically and internationally. The Corporation also administers the funding programs of the Canadian Television Fund.

Human Resource Management Tools Now Available - Cultural Careers Council Ontario recently completed its Human Resources Initiatives Program. An important outcome of the Program was the completion of six Human Resources Management Tools. Now available, these tool-kits include:
