Call for Applications: CBC Canadian Reflections Award
Presented in partnership with CBC Television

This national competitive award will give one emerging Canadian female filmmaker the invaluable opportunity to receive creative support from CBC Television to develop a concept project to showcase the diversity of Canada.

The award winner will receive:

• $7,500 cash award to go towards production costs of a program of up to 30 minutes in length
• Consultation with a CBC drama executive
• A WIFT-T programming pass valued at $1,200
• Award presentation at the prestigious Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on December 4, 2006 at the Fairmont Royal York

Deadline for applications: October 4, 2006, 12 noon EST.

Applications will be reviewed by selection committee composed of industry representatives with final decisions announced November 2006.

Presented in partnership with Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc.

This national program offers one entry-level visible minority or Aboriginal woman the opportunity to advance her career in broadcasting through experience in the Public and Regulatory Affairs department at Alliance Atlantis. The award winner will take part in a comprehensive career development program including:

• Three-month internship at Alliance Atlantis
• One-on-one career search assistance from a senior mentor provided by WIFT-T
• Trip to Ottawa to meet broadcast, Government and regulatory decision makers, and attend a VIP cocktail reception
• A WIFT-T programming pass valued at $1,200

WIFT-T and Kodak Canada Announce Winner of Kodak New Vision Fellowship

WIFT-T, in partnership with Kodak Canada Entertainment Imaging, is pleased to announce Rosamund Owen as the winner of the 2006 Kodak New Vision Fellowship.

Owen will be honing her creative and business skills in the upcoming months with acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Patricia Rozema (I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing, Mansfield Park) and senior executive Laurie May, Co-President of Maple Pictures Corp.

New and Prospective Members Meeting: September 5 at 6pm

On a monthly basis, WIFT-T opens its doors for a New and Prospective Members Meeting. At the free members’ meeting, we give an overview of the organization; its history, mandate, structure, a breakdown of the courses offered and other benefits of membership. It's the perfect place to network with other members, meet the staff and gain the knowledge you need to begin designing your own career strategy.

The meetings will be held in the Childcare room on the main floor of The Dunfield Club, 110 Eglinton Ave. East. Please enter through the main club door between the parking entrance and Blockbuster. Please indicate to the staff that you are attending the WIFT-T meeting.

2006 Crystal Awards and Call for Nominations
For almost 20 years, WIFT-T has honoured the extraordinary achievements of women in screen-based media with its annual Crystal Awards celebration. Since its inception in 1988, these coveted awards have been presented to more than 80 of Canada's most accomplished women and men who have made significant contributions to the advancement of women and who have helped bring issues of diversity to the forefront.

WIFT-T is currently accepting nominations for this year’s Crystal Awards. Industry and WIFT-T members are invited to nominate candidates by completing the 2006 Crystal Award Nomination Form and required materials and submitting them to WIFT-T.
Please note that WIFT-T Board members may not be nominated.

We invite you to nominate an exceptional contributor to Canada’s film, television or new media in each of the following 2006 Crystal Award categories:

• Outstanding Achievement Award
• Creative Excellence Award
• Phyllis Switzer Mentorship Award, presented in association with CHUM Limited
• Outstanding Employer Award

An independent jury of past award recipients and industry leaders will select the Crystal Award winners for 2006. The award winners will be honoured at the Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on December 4, 2006.

Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT-T), in association with the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario (DGC Ontario), is pleased to announce the launch of www.canadianfilmmaker.com, a new website that provides a discerning insiders’ guide to the business of feature filmmaking in Canada.

Developed in partnership with DGC Ontario, the Ontario Trillium Foundation and a host of industry and government partners, CanadianFilmmaker.com is a first-ever resource for Canadian filmmakers and a unique, one-stop online guide. The site clearly explains the business of feature filmmaking in Canada – from development and financing to distribution and marketing – with practical tips and real-life stories from some of the industry’s leading experts.

Call for Applications: CHUM-funded scholarships to attend Innoversity Summit in Toronto

(Up to 15 scholarships for delegates from Alberta and Manitoba)

CHUM Limited and Innoversity are pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the CHUM Delegate Scholarship, designed to enable aspiring and established media professionals from Alberta and Manitoba to attend the Innoversity Summit in Toronto, October 23 and 24, 2006.

The Innoversity Summit is Canada's premier event focusing on cultural diversity in Canadian media. Held October 23 and 24, 2006 at the Toronto Marriott Hotel, Innoversity provides people working, studying or pursuing careers in broadcasting, film and related industries with a chance to showcase work, make connections, attend professional development workshops, gain mentorship and compete for development contracts.

The CHUM Delegate Scholarship will cover airfare, accommodations, conference registration and a per diem for up to 15 people from Alberta and Manitoba to attend the Summit in Toronto. Scholarship recipients must attend the two-day Summit and submit a short written report on their experience.

Preference will be given to applicants who are members of visible minority groups, Aboriginals and / or persons with disabilities. Preference will also be given to independent media, content creators or producers.

Applications must be submitted to Innoversity by September 11, 2006.
