Emerging Level Certificate Program: Media Career Management Skills
Presented by WIFT-T in partnership with Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology
Date: May 17, 31 & June 7, 2008 (Saturdays)
Media Career Management Skills
This course will provide students with the skills and strategies to develop
their personal marketing package, (which could include a website, demo reel,
resume, short bio or a portfolio), and use these materials to launch or
re-launch their careers or small businesses. Participants will learn about
resume trends and expectations, and how effective marketing tools can help them
succeed in the application and interview process. Students will
also learn to evaluate the changing marketplace; how to recognize and respond to
potential growth and opportunity in their careers.

Shibley Righton Presents: Alternative Marketing Tools
The Shibley Righton Breakfast Stories Series offers a rare inside look at the real world of film and television. Led by Marina Cordoni, this question and answer session will focus on alternative methods used to market film and television productions. Presenters will share practical and useful ways to promote and market productions in order to reach out to the competitive domestic and international media marketplace.

Feature Film Writing Program
Presented in partnership with NBC Universal
Instructed by story editor consultant Elke Town, this two module course is presented in partnership with NBC Universal. The first module will provide an overview and introduction to the major elements of Feature Film Screenwriting, including the development stages of a screenplay. The second module will provide an in-depth examination and analysis of the major elements of feature film screenwriting. The workshop includes a complete breakdown and analysis of a single film.
Date: Coming June and July
Registration: 5:30pm-6:00pm
Time: 6:00pm-9:00pm
Fee emerging module (4 Part Series): $260 + GST Members, $380 + GST Non-members
Fee intermediate/advanced module (5 Part Series): $325 + GST Members, $475 + GST Non-members

Women's Writer's Workshop
This intensive workshop will follow the emerging module of the Feature Film Writing Program. Instructed by story editor consultant Maureen Dorey, it will target emerging to intermediate women screenwriters who have a treatment or first draft, and will work towards the development of their next draft of a feature script.
Date: Coming mid-June

imagineNATIVE: Call for Proposals
Do you have a great idea for a five minute short film? Explore 16mm OR 8mm film through LIFT's workshops, shoot and edit your own film, and see your film on screen at the 9th Annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, which will take place in Toronto from October 15-19, 2008.
About the Courses:
Handmade Filmmaking in 16mm & 8mm (VALUE $500 each course)
This all-inclusive hands-on film course will give participants a basic foundation in camera operation, hand processing, optical printing and a wide variety of animation techniques. This course is open to beginners. Participants will receive the opportunity to use the following LIFT equipment and LIFT facilities outside of designated class time.
Duration: Approximately seven days from May - July.
Eligibility Criteria:
This call is open to Aboriginal candidates only;
· Preference will be given to emerging artists or to video artists who have not worked in film.
· Candidates must commit to attending the LIFT training workshops from May 22 - July 26, 2008.

CFC AND NFB LAUNCH CANADA’S FIRST THEATRICAL DOCUMENTARY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
CFC in collaboration with the National Film Board (NFB) is pleased to announce the creation of Canada’s first program to develop theatrical documentaries. The CFC NFB Feature Documentary Program will launch in January 2009 with the goal of developing successful original feature documentaries for international cinema audiences.
NEW CFC – TRIBECA FILM INSTITUTE COLLABORATION A HUGE SUCCESS
CFC launched a new collaboration with the Tribeca Film Institute last month that brought two Canadian filmmaking teams to New York to participate in Tribeca All Access (TAA) during the Tribeca Film Festival. Canadian participants included: Shannon Masters (’05) and Jennifer Podemski (producer) representing Sight Unseen, a coming of age family story rooted in aboriginal culture and stories; and Larisa Andrews (‘02) and Claudia Molina (‘05) representing Red Velvet Girls, a darkly sensual story about a teenage lesbian vampire who must choose between her childhood love and an arranged marriage to sustain her family’s bloodline.
FESTIVAL WHIRLWIND CONTINUES FOR CFC’S SHORT DRAMATIC FILMS
CFC’s 2007 Short Dramatic Films continue to make their rounds in the next couple of months:
- Burgeon and Fade, Night, Shutter, Song of Slomon and Cursing Hanley, have all been accepted into the Worldwide Short Film Festival’s (June 10-15) CFC Spotlight.
- In addition to the CFC Spotlight, Cursing Hanley has been accepted into Official Selection and Song of Slomon has been selected to screen in the Canadian Comedy program.
- Song of Slomon has also been invited to the Solstice Film Festival in Minnesota this summer (June 19-21)
- Shutter and Burgeon and Fade are heading to Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival (May 22-25).
