Centre for Media Professionals [WIFT-T training and skills development]:
Kodak New Vision Fellowship: Call for Applications
Presented in partnership with Kodak Canada Entertainment Imaging
This national initiative provides one Canadian female director with the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival (September 2007) through intensive industry coaching and a TIFF bursary, followed by a two-month creative mentorship with an established director.
The 2007 Kodak New Vision Fellowship will include:
- $5,000 in-kind donation of Kodak Motion Picture film stock
- Preparation for the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival with a seasoned industry professional
- One-on-one, two-month post-TIFF mentorship with an established director
- Complimentary TIFF registration and access to professional seminars and training at the festival
- Announcement of award winner at the WIFT-T Festival Reception in September 2007
- Award presentation at the Crystal Awards Gala Luncheon on December 3, 2007
- Guidance for post-TIFF follow-up
Fully completed application packages must be submitted to
WIFT-T by Friday, July 20, 2007 at 5pm EST. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of industry representatives.

Quebecor BWTVF Mentorship Award: Call for Applications
This national competitive program gives one talented Canadian female or male producer of a visible minority or Aboriginal group the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2007 Banff World Television Festival through an intensive three-month market mentorship and festival bursary. The BWTVF experience is comprehensive, allowing the award winner to take full advantage of the business and creative opportunities available at this world-class festival.
The 2007 Quebecor BWTVF Mentorship Award will include:
• One-on-one coaching with top industry executives to develop a market-driven project and pitch
• Complimentary festival registration
• $500 voucher for airfare
• Festival pitch meetings
• On-site festival mentoring
• Guidance for post-festival follow-up
The Quebecor BWTVF Mentorship Award program is a national initiative open to emerging Canadian producers of a visible minority or Aboriginal group working in television drama, documentary, or lifestyle.
Application deadline: Monday, May 7, 2007 at 5pm EST.
Eligibility criteria, full guidelines and application forms are available from the WIFT-T website at www.wift.com. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of industry representatives with final decisions announced later in May.

2007 Quebecor Bursary Program
Presented by Women in Film and Television-Toronto in association with the Quebecor Fund
This provincial program is designed to assist underrepresented women and/or men in the film and television industry gain access to professional skills development and networking opportunities through WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals.
The Quebecor Bursary program will provide 50 visible minorities and/or Aboriginals with a WIFT-T Full Membership at no cost to the applicant. The Bursary program is specifically targeted to the following underrepresented Visible Minority communities:
Black/African/Caribbean, South Asian, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern/West Asian and Latin American.

Add Your Name to the WIFT-T Database for the Business Management for Media Professionals Program
WIFT-T has partnered with the Schulich Executive Education Centre at the Schulich School of Business, York University, and Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology to offer both a senior level and an emerging level certification course for women and men as part of WIFT-T’s Business Management for Media Professionals (formerly Business Learning Initiative).
The Business Management for Media Professionals is an affordable, accessible entrepreneurial training program that will be offered through the Centre for Media Professionals (CMP), WIFT-T’s training division for women and men.
WIFT-T and Schulich will work together to develop a senior program of courses in business targeted to managers, professionals and entrepreneurs in the film and television industries. In collaboration with Humber College, the emerging program will target newer entrants to the industry as well as newcomers to Canada with film experience.
Schulich and Humber will bring their individual expertise in training to the development of the overall program and course content and will, with WIFT-T, select instructors that combine the best of academic and industry experience. The programs will be administered and delivered by the Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC) at the Schulich School of Business, York University, and Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology.

New and Prospective Members Meeting: Tuesday, May 15 at 6pm
On a monthly basis, WIFT-T opens its doors for a New and Prospective Members Meeting. At the free members’ meeting, we give an overview of the organization; its history, mandate, structure, a breakdown of the courses offered and other benefits of membership. It's the perfect place to network with other members, meet the staff and gain the knowledge you need to begin designing your own career strategy.
The meetings will be held at the WIFT-T offices at 110 Eglinton Ave. East, Suite 601.

A $25 + GST administration fee will be required to process your submission. Payments must be received before screening information is posted online.

WIFT International Summit: July 16-19, 2007
Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) will host the WIFT International Summit in Toronto at the Park Hyatt Hotel from July 16-19, 2007. Held every two years in a different country, 2007 will mark the first year this event has been held in Toronto.
The WIFT International Summit is expected to draw 600 delegates from around the world and will bring together the film and television community from Afghanistan to New Zealand. For four days, delegates will be inspired by panels, workshops, screenings, and special events. The WIFT International Summit will give Toronto an opportunity to spotlight its expertise in developing diverse talent and encourage international business opportunities that can assist Canadian production companies and filmmakers in creating strong products that are viable in the worldwide market.

WIFT-T Annual General Meeting - May 8
WIFT-T's Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 6:30pm at the National Film Board of Canada, 150 John Street. Elections to the Board of Directors will take place at the AGM and a keynote speaker will be announced shortly.
All full members of WIFT-T are encouraged to vote for the 2007 Board of Directors. There are 10 positions to fill and currently 11 nominees. Nominations will be accepted from the floor on the evening of the AGM.
If you are unable to attend the AGM on May 8, you may vote by Proxy. The Instrument of Proxy must be forwarded to the WIFT-T office by Monday, May 7 at 5pm.

Jennifer Baichwal Receives Award from Al Gore
Congratulations to last year's Crystal Award winner Jennifer Baichwal who received the Reel Current Award at the Nashville Film Festival for her documentary Manufactured Landscapes. She was given the award by former U.S. vice-president Al Gore for a documentary that best provides insight into a contemporary global issue.

CFC GO WEST Project Lab
The Whistler Film Festival presents, in association with Telefilm Canada, the Canadian Film Centre's GO WEST Project Lab (www.cfccreates.com/gowest ), an intense, one-week, creative and business immersion experience to be held in Whistler, B.C., June 18th – 22nd, 2007. Open only to western-Canada-based producers (from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Yukon), the CFC GO WEST Project Lab is intended to advance a producer's dramatic feature project, facilitate relationships and collaboration on and investment in film projects that have US & international appeal. The deadline application for the Project Lab's inaugural run is May 11th, 2007.

The Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab is currently accepting applications for the Fall 2007 session of the TELUS Interactive Art & Entertainment Program (IAEP), a five-month, post-graduate residency focused on creating inventive interactive narrative projects for the Canadian and international marketplace.
The TELUS Interactive Arts & Entertainment Program (IAEP) is Canada's first post-graduate program for new media training and production, based on a philosophy that compelling new media content is created through a collaborative process harnessing a wide range of creative skills, knowledge and talent. An internationally acclaimed facility, the Media lab has produced award-winning new media prototypes ranging from simulation-based interactive documentaries, to wireless storytelling networks, to interactive short films and narrative-driven media installations.

3rd Annual Vortex Competition: April 18-July 19, 2007
May 31 - Submission deadline for The Vortex Videogame Competition 2007 where successful applicants have the opportunity to pitch their concept to a stellar lineup of industry leaders, financiers and venture capitalists and network with the best of the best.
Pitches will take place June 18-21. In addition, June 9-12, at The International Academy of Design & Technology, Vortex will present a series of educational industry coaching seminars on how to “pitch” an idea and sell a video game concept to potential financiers. Intellectual property and marketing issues will also be discussed.
