Business Management for Media Professionals: Senior Level Certificate Program

Presented by Women in Film and Television - Toronto in partnership with
Schulich Executive Education Centre, Schulich School of Business

Bursaries are now available for the Senior Level Certificate Program. Bursaries include:

RBC Royal Bank Bursary for Independent Producers/Small Production Companies
A senior woman in a small production company (maximum five employees) or an independent producer may apply for this bursary.  WIFT-T will cover $3,300 of the cost of the program. 

WIFT-T Bursary for Independent Producers/Small Production Companies
A senior woman in a small production company (maximum five employees) or an independent producer may apply for this bursary.  WIFT-T will cover $3,300 of the cost of the program.     

WIFT-T Career Transition Bursary
This bursary is for a mid to senior woman in the film and television industry who is unemployed.  WIFT-T will cover $3,300 of the cost of the program.

WIFT-T Bursary for Underrepresented Groups
This bursary is for a mid to senior level woman of color, Aboriginal woman, or a disabled woman in the film and television industry.  WIFT-T will cover $3,300 of the cost of the program.

Specifically designed for managers, professionals, and entrepreneurs working in the industry, this six-session, 13-day, senior level program will help participants gain a thorough and rounded understanding of how the Canadian industry operates within a global context. Themes include technological change, multiplatform delivery of content, globalization of the marketplace, the challenges of leadership in times of great change, and how leaders manage major decision-making.

Distinguished industry speakers include: Laszlo Barna, Rick Brace, Kathleen Dore, Peter Grant, Trina McQueen, Margaret O'Brien, Catherine Tait, Ron Suter, Phyllis Yaffe and many more.

With the support of the Ontario Media Development Corporation on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and NBC Universal.

WIFT-T [awards and events]

2007 Quebecor Bursary Program
Presented by Women in Film and Television - Toronto in association with the Quebecor Fund

This provincial program is designed to assist underrepresented women and/or men in the film and television industry gain access to professional skills development and networking opportunities through WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals.

The Quebecor Bursary program will provide 50 visible minorities and/or Aboriginals with a WIFT-T Full Membership at no cost to the applicant. The Bursary program is specifically targeted to the following underrepresented Visible Minority communities:

Black/African/Caribbean, South Asian, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern/West Asian and Latin American.

Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology Presents: Feature Screenwriting 1 (SCWR200)

Hit the Big Screen
Designed to get you and keep you writing.

Offered by the Film and Television program at Humber's School of Media Studies, this online program offers a unique, interactive approach to screenwriting for Feature Film writers of all levels.

Your script material will be reviewed and critiqued on a one-to-one-basis by our experienced faculty of story editors, all industry professionals. At the same time, you will be mentored and learn to refine your craft by participating in our online workshops and discussions led by an accomplished industry professional.

Curriculum
This 14-week course is divided into two-week blocks with each block focusing on a specific aspect of screenwriting: concept, plot, structure, conflict, character development, tone, pacing and dialogue. We encourage all participants to take part in the course work but the emphasis will always be on your own writing.

This program is customized to address the strengths and shortcomings of individual scripts. You will work on your script material at your own pace and be individually assessed on your individual ability to handle the major elements of screenwriting.

Submission Requirements:
1 page Synopsis/Concept
Up to 15 pages of outline, treatment or script

Fee: $595.00

Additional Costs: Approximate $40 for purchase of books for required reading.

National Film Board: Tremplin 2008
This contest is open to all emerging francophone Canadian filmmakers residing ourtside of the province of Quebec. Tremplin offers an important experience for aspiring filmmakers in documentary production.

The winners will benefit from free writing workshops and professional mentorship throughout their filmmaking process.

Submit your application package before January 9th, 2008:

- A cover letter explaining your motivation
- A copy of your resume
- A 2-5 page synopsis explaining the main theme of your proposed 12-15 minute documentary
- A copy of your previous work (optional)
