The NBC Universal Film Marketing and Distribution Series has been developed to assist emerging producers navigate the daunting world of film marketing and distribution. Mark Slone, Vice President of Marketing and Publicity for Odeon Films, will provide course participants with a broad understanding of publicity, promotion, advertising and distribution. This 3-evening course will offer participants the opportunity to work with industry guests, examine case studies, and further develop a workable marketing strategy for their film project.
This 3-part intensive workshop explores:
* A producer’s on-set responsibilities
* Vital marketing tools within the industry
* The creation of an effective promotion strategy
* Press Kits, Posters and Trailers
* Using a film festival as a marketing tool
* Budgeting for creative and material costs

WIFT International Short Film Showcase

WIFT-T and the National Film Board would like to cordially invite WIFT-T members to the 1st annual 2006 WIFT International Film Festival, an international event showcasing some of the world’s most exciting female filmmakers.
The event, scheduled to take place in a number of locations around the world on Women’s Day (March 8, 2006), will screen various local and international short films, and aims to celebrate, promote and advance the filmmaking talents of women globally.
The first annual WIFT International Short Film Showcase will take place in Toronto as follows:

Women in Film and Video of Washington, DC (WIFV) to host the fifth annual "Kids World Film Festival" on Thursday, April 27th.
An educational, fun-filled event featuring uplifting films by, for and about children, to be presented to fifth and sixth graders from schools in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Currently accepting submissions.
Seeking films from domestic and international filmmakers that touch upon issues of peace, tolerance, unity and understanding among all people in an entertaining and educational way. Films must be approximately 3 to 30 minutes in length and portray children from different countries and cultures in a positive light. Four to six films will be selected.
The deadline for submission is March 15th.

NFB Mediatheque celebrates African Canadian culture
From February 4 to March 11, the NFB Mediatheque presents an innovative exhibition showcasing African Canadian art. Perspectives includes works by Toronto-based artists Dionne Simpson, Sandra Brewster, Stella Fakiyesi and Wayne Salmon, as well as selections from the stunning collection of collector/curator and director of the Wedge curatorial project, Dr. Kenneth Montague.
Complementing Perspectives, the NFB Mediatheque presents various special events and screenings:
This Saturday, February 18, don’t miss the Toronto premiere of Russell Wyse’s Brother 2 Brother, screening at 3 pm in the NFB Cinema, along with Hubert Davis’s Oscar® nominated Hardwood.
The evening of February 18, join us for an intimate conversation with Dr. Kenneth Montague, centring on his interest in and dedication to supporting artists from Africa and the African Diaspora. The discussion begins at 7 pm with a slideshow of Dr. Montague’s comprehensive collection in the NFB Cinema.

The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) Appointment Announcement
The Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Monique Lafontaine to the newly created position of General Counsel and Director of Regulatory Affairs. For the last five years, Monique worked with Peter Grant in the Communications Practice Group of McCarthy Tétrault. Prior to that, she was with the CRTC as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Broadcasting Directorate. Monique holds a Masters of Law from Osgoode Hall.
