FILLING UP FAST!
Business Management for Media Professionals: Senior Level Certificate Program
Presented by Women in Film and Television-Toronto in partnership with Schulich Executive Education Centre, Schulich School of Business
Specifically designed for managers, professionals, and entrepreneurs working in the industry, this six-session, 13-day, senior level program will help participants gain a thorough and rounded understanding of how the Canadian industry operates within a global context. Themes include technological change, multiplatform delivery of content, globalization of the marketplace, the challenges of leadership in times of great change, and how leaders manage major decision-making.
Distinguished industry speakers include: Laszlo Barna, Rick Brace, Kathleen Dore, Peter Grant, Trina McQueen, Margaret O'Brien, Catherine Tait, Ron Suter, Phyllis Yaffe and many more.

The Directors Weekend - Limited Registration
for WIFT-T Members
Presented in partnership with DGC Ontario
Join film professionals for an intensive two-day workshop on the essentials of directing. Through instruction, workshop and case study, participants will gain an understanding of the styles, structures and team work necessary in filmmaking. This program will also allow for exchange between participants to discuss current projects and career goals. Participants will come away with a comprehensive overview of directing techniques, styles and best-case practices.
Instructed by writer/director/producer David Weaver, (Century Hotel, Siblings, Toronto Stories). Content highlights include:
•Elements of drama and their relation to the work of the director
•Breaking down the script and cultivating the visual style of the film
•Casting and the role of the casting agent
•Choosing the right department heads
•Storyboards and shot lists
•Blocking the scene
•Setting priorities and structuring the shooting day
•Crisis management
Location: Metro Hall, 55 John St. (south of King)
Dates: Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9, 2007
Registration: 8:30am
Time: 9am - 5:30pm
Fee (for 2-part course): $75 (includes GST), for DGC Ontario members only. Limited registration for WIFT-T members.

 2007 Quebecor Bursary Program
Presented by Women in Film and Television-Toronto in association with the Quebecor Fund
This provincial program is designed to assist underrepresented women and/or men in the film and television industry gain access to professional skills development and networking opportunities through WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals.
The Quebecor Bursary program will provide 50 visible minorities and/or Aboriginals with a WIFT-T Full Membership at no cost to the applicant. The Bursary program is specifically targeted to the following underrepresented Visible Minority communities:
Black/African/Caribbean, South Asian, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern/West Asian and Latin American.

On Monday, December 3, more than 600 industry guests celebrated the achievements of six outstanding women. Filmmaker and actor Jennifer Liao is the winner of the CBC Business of Broadcasting Mentorship Award. She will be given the invaluable opportunity to take a comprehensive week-long workshop at CBC location, including being guided through various production and broadcast components of short film.

WIFV-DC is looking for short films on issues of conflict resolution, tolerance and diversity for the 2008 Kids World Film Festival for 5th and 6th graders. We encourage women from WIFTI chapters to submit their films!
Submission Deadline: December 15, 2007.
The Festival will be held in May 2008.

FILM PROGRAM
The Film Resident Program is a five-and-a-half month complete immersion in the art and craft of dramatic filmmaking for producers, editors, writers and directors. Filmmakers develop technical and collaborative skills, while refining and challenging their artistic expression in an intensely demanding, creative and professional environment. With a focus on entrepreneurial spirit, the program maintains a balance between the artistic and commercial aspects of the filmmaking industry, while nurturing originality and fostering creative risk-taking.

Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology Presents: Feature Screenwriting 1 (SCWR200)
Hit the Big Screen
Designed to get you and keep you writing.
Offered by the Film and Television program at Humber's School of Media Studies, this online program offers a unique, interactive approach to screenwriting for Feature Film writers of all levels.
Your script material will be reviewed and critiqued on a one-to-one-basis by our experienced faculty of story editors, all industry professionals. At the same time, you will be mentored and learn to refine your craft by participating in our online workshops and discussions led by an accomplished industry professional.
Curriculum
This 14-week course is divided into two-week blocks with each block focusing on a specific aspect of screenwriting: concept, plot, structure, conflict, character development, tone, pacing and dialogue. We encourage all participants to take part in the course work but the emphasis will always be on your own writing.
This program is customized to address the strengths and shortcomings of individual scripts. You will work on your script material at your own pace and be individually assessed on your individual ability to handle the major elements of screenwriting.
Submission Requirements:
1 page Synopsis/Concept
Up to 15 pages of outline, treatment or script
Fee: $595.00
Additional Costs: Approximate $40 for purchase of books for required reading.
