Centre for Media Professionals [WIFT-T training and skills development]:
2007 Quebecor Bursary Program
Presented by Women in Film and Television-Toronto in association with the Quebecor Fund
This provincial program is designed to assist underrepresented women and/or men in the film and television industry gain access to professional skills development and networking opportunities through WIFT-T’s Centre for Media Professionals.
The Quebecor Bursary program will provide 50 visible minorities and/or Aboriginals with a WIFT-T Full Membership at no cost to the applicant. The Bursary program is specifically targeted to the following underrepresented Visible Minority communities:
Black/African/Caribbean, South Asian, Asian/Pacific Islanders, Middle Eastern/West Asian and Latin American.

visit the WIFT-T web site at www.wift.com. Fully completed application packages must be submitted to WIFT-T. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and assessed on an ongoing basis until all 50 bursaries have been filled.

Add Your Name to the WIFT-T Database for the Business Management for Media Professionals Program
WIFT-T has partnered with the Schulich School of Business and Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology to offer the Business Management for Media Professionals, a senior and emerging level certification course for women and men in the film and television industry. The Business Management for Media Professionals will be offered through the Centre for Media Professionals (CMP), WIFT-T’s training division for women and men.
The Schulich senior program will target managers, professionals and entrepreneurs while the Humber College emerging program will target newer entrants to the industry as well as newcomers to Canada with film experience.
Schulich and Humber will bring their individual expertise in training to the development of the overall program and course content and will, with WIFT-T, select instructors that combine the best of academic and industry experience. The programs will be administered and delivered by the Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC) at the Schulich School of Business, York University, and Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology.

WIFT-T [awards and events]:
WIFT International Summit: Sessions Available Online
Presented in partnership with WIF/GM
Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT-T) is pleased to announce that selected sessions of the 2007 WIFT International Summit, including the Gala Luncheon Awards, are available for online viewing at www.wift.com. Sponsored by the Women In Film /General Motors Alliance, the selected sessions were webcast live during the Summit for the first time ever in the event’s history. WIFT-T hosted the WIFT International Summit at the Park Hyatt Toronto from July 16-19, 2007.
More than 2,000 plays of the sessions have already occurred worldwide. The selected sessions will be available online for the next year, so users can continue to benefit from the broad range of topics and discussions.

New and Prospective Members Meeting: Tuesday, August 14 at 6pm
On a monthly basis, WIFT-T opens its doors for a New and Prospective Members Meeting. At the free members’ meeting, we give an overview of the organization; its history, mandate, structure, a breakdown of the courses offered and other benefits of membership. It's the perfect place to network with other members, meet the staff and gain the knowledge you need to begin designing your own career strategy.
The meetings will be held at the WIFT-T offices at 110 Eglinton Ave. East, Suite 601.

 Canadian Film Centre: CFC Feature Film Project To Go Into Production with "Nurse.Fighter.Boy."
CFC Feature Film Project is pleased to announce the selection of its 17 th feature film production: NURSE.FIGHTER.BOY. CFC alumni, Charles Officer (Dir ‘01) is co-writer/ director, and Ingrid Veninger (Prod '00) is co-writer/producer.
Principal photography will commence in September in the Toronto area.
Officer is best known for his poetic visual style. His short film SHORT HYMN_SILENT WAR, received a Special Jury Citation for Best Canadian Short at TIFF in 2002, screened at Sundance and was nominated for a Genie. NURSE.FIGHTER.BOY will be his first feature.
Veninger is a producer, director, writer and actor with numerous award-winning credits to her name (THE LIMB SALESMAN, GAMBLING, GODS and LSD). Her short film, which she produced through the CFC's Short Dramatic Film Program, THREE SISTERS ON MOON LAKE won the Audience Award at the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto, and screened at a long list of festivals including: Montreal, TIFF, Vancouver, Sundance, and Brisbane.
NURSE.FIGHTER.BOY is the story of a twelve-year-old boy, who immerses himself in a world of magic to conjure a lion-hearted fighter to protect his mother.

Call for Applications: Hot Docs and the Documentary Organisation of Canada’s Quebecor Documentary Fellowship Programme
The Programme
After its successful first year, Hot Docs and the Documentary Organisation of Canada (DOC) are pleased to announce the return of the Quebecor Documentary Fellowship Programme. The programme is designed for mid-level filmmakers from diverse communities intending to pursue documentary production as a viable, long-term career option.
The Quebecor Documentary Fellowship Programme will award five filmmakers with:
• Year-Round Training From business skills to High Definition production, year-round professional development programmes will help recipients hone their skills and prepare for Hot Docs 2008;
• Mentorship The opportunity to be paired with a senior producer mentor from the DOC community who will oversee and inspire the Fellow throughout the entire programme and help transition him/her to the next tier of his/her career;
• Networking Opportunities to meet commissioning editors, executive producers and craftspeople at networking events, which range from Meet the Broadcaster nights and networking parties, to day-long workshops and professional development activities;
• Hot Docs Accreditation Participants will receive full accreditation to Hot Docs 2008, which provides access to a full slate of professional development programming;
• Doc Lab Enrolment Three of the five Fellows will participate in Hot Docs’ intensive Doc Lab training and mentoring initiative, which includes partial access to the Toronto Documentary Form (TDF);
- or -
• Toronto Documentary Forum Accreditation Two of the Fellowship participants will receive accredited Observer status at the Toronto Documentary Forum (TDF).
Bursary Recipients
Eight filmmakers will receive full accreditation to the 2008 Hot Docs Festival, providing them access to all industry events, screenings, conference sessions and various pitching opportunities, as well as access to select DOC events.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be a member of an under-represented group – a visible minority or Aboriginal community – and must reside in the GTA. They must also:
• Be at an intermediate/mid-career level with a demonstrated commitment to their profession (i.e. 5 years professional experience, minimum of two paid professional credits);
• Have financial need and high potential illustrated through demonstrated success.
Additional selection criteria:
• Candidates must commit to full participation in the programme (schedules must be conducive to attending events/training);
• Candidates must be creative, innovative, resourceful, and willing to help push the boundaries of the documentary genre;
• Candidates must desire to deepen their understanding of proposal preparation, the production cycle, financing, co-production, and access to broadcasters.
How to Apply
Please include a cover sheet with your name, the name of your production company, your mailing address, telephone number, fax number and email address, followed by:
• A letter outlining your interest in participating in the Quebecor Documentary Fellowship Programme and how you feel it would benefit you professionally (maximum 1 page);
• A current resume, including a list of your key production credits (maximum 2 pages);
• A brief description of your current documentary projects in development (maximum 1 page per project).
Deadline for completed applications is FRIDAY AUGUST 17, 2007 at 5pm. Applications should be emailed to: amartin@hotdocs.ca.
Successful Applicants
Following the submission deadline, a selection committee comprised of industry professionals will review all applications. Successful applicants will be informed of their selection the week of September 3rd, 2007.
All participants will be asked to complete a questionnaire within one month of the end of the programme and submit a brief update six months after the programme documenting any production opportunities that arose from the programme.
