Emerging Level Certificate Program: Marketing Film and Television: Domestic and International
Presented by WIFT-T in partnership with Humber School of Media Studies and Information Technology
Date: April 19, 26 & May 3, 2008 (Saturdays)
Marketing Film and Television: Domestic and International
This course is designed to provide an insider's view of the sales and
distribution business and its dynamics, and prepares participants to more
effectively market their projects. Participants are introduced to the processes
and players involved in the buying, selling and marketing of film and television
productions, both fiction and non-fiction, from feature-length to shorts.

Shibley Righton Presents: Marketing Features in a Global Marketplace
The Shibley Righton Breakfast Stories Series offers a rare inside look at the real world of working in film and television. This question and answer session will examine the sales and distribution business and its dynamics within a global marketplace. It will look at what the challenges and new opportunities have arisen in the recent past, and how their marketing and distribution strategy has changed over time.
Moderated by Patricia Scarlett, President, Scarlett Media with guest speakers Joanna Miles, Director of Marketing, Maple Pictures and Angie Burns, VP Publicity and Promotion, Maple Pictures.

2008 Quebecor Mentorship Award
Presented in partnership with The Quebecor Fund
The Quebecor Mentorship Award is a national initiative designed to provide one Canadian female or male television producer of a visible minority or Aboriginal group with the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the Banff World Television Festival 2008 through an intensive one-month Market Mentorship and Festival Bursary.
Emerging to intermediate producers, with at least one broadcast credit and two projects at an advanced stage of development for broadcast, are encouraged to apply now. Deadline for applications is Monday, April 21, 2008.

2008 Astral Media Mentorship Award
Presented in partnership with Astral Media
The first annual Astral Media Mentorship Award is a national competitive program, which will give one talented Canadian female or male producer who is a visible minority, Aboriginal or with a disability, the invaluable opportunity to prepare for the 2008 Banff World Television Festival through an intensive mentorship in Toronto and at Banff, as well as a festival bursary.
Emerging producers, with a minimum of three years industry experience and up to two credits in children’s and/or drama programming, are encouraged to apply now. Deadline for applications is Monday, April 21, 2008.

Women's Writer's Workshop
Instructed by story editor consultant Maureen Dorey, this workshop will target emerging women screenwriters who have a detailed outline or treatment, and are working on the first draft of a feature script.

Feature Film Writing Program
Instructed by story editor consultant Elke Town, this three-part refresher course, in partnership with NBC Universal, will take writers through the elements of developing a feature film script. Components will include feature structure, character development and dialogue.

CFC is pleased to announce that Song of Slomon, produced through the 2007 CFC Short Dramatic Film Program has been selected to screen in the Short Film Competition at the 7th Tribeca Film Festival, to be held in New York City, April 23rd – May 4th. Directed by Emmanuel Shirinian, written by Amy Cameron, edited by Aren Hansen, and produced by Tara Boire, Song of Slomon stars Michael Cohen as a conservative Orthodox Rabbi whose soul is invaded by a catchy, ubiquitous pop tune, which threatens to send him scrambling to the dance floor on the Sabbath or back to the safety of the Torah.

Hats off to Shirley Cheechoo (Dir’ Lab ’02), CFC alumna, who received the National Aboriginal Achievement Award – Arts Category. The awards ceremony took place March 7 in Toronto and will be broadcast April 5 on APTN at 8 p.m. ET.
