Velma Barkwell

A respected music industry veteran, and highly skilled music rights negotiator. Velma’s areas of expertise include licensing music for film & television, music publishing administration, soundtrack development & production, music supervision, and overall creative project management. Music supervision credits include shows such as Trailer Park Boys, North South and Canada Russia ’72. A team player with over 20 years of experience in the business of music, Velma maintains excellent client relationships with music publishers, labels, composers, producers, directors, editors, and performing rights societies in Canada, and around the world. She is the Director of Music Licensing for Sony BMG Music Canada, and the founder/music supervisor for East End Music Productions.

Rights management expert Elizabeth Klinck will provide guidance to producers dealing with rights management, song publishing rights, and master rights when acquiring and contracting music for their production. After a short break, a panel moderated by Elizabeth Klinck will discuss how to hire, locate and license music, composers and stock music. The panel will include a lawyer, a composer from the Guild of Canadian Film Composers (GCFC) and representatives from the Canadian Independent Record Production Association (CIRPA) including a music supervisor, and producer.
