Phyllis Yaffe was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Atlantis Communications in June 2005 and to the Company's board of directors in November 2005. In her role as CEO, Ms. Yaffe is responsible for leading the Company in achieving its financial and operating goals.
Ms. Yaffe has played a defining role at Alliance Atlantis. In her previous role as Chief Operating Officer, Ms. Yaffe was responsible for overseeing Alliance Atlantis' worldwide operations, including its dynamic Canadian specialty television channels, its international television distribution business and the hit CSI franchise, which the company co-owns and co-produces with CBS Productions.
Prior to her role as COO, Ms. Yaffe led the Company's broadcast division overseeing all aspects of management for the company's thirteen Canadian specialty television networks: Showcase, Life Network, HGTV (Home and Garden Television) Canada, History Television, Food Network Canada, Showcase Diva, Showcase Action, National Geographic Channel, IFC Canada, Discovery Health Channel, BBC Canada, BBC Kids and Fine Living.
Ms. Yaffe's other accomplishments include being the Chair of the Foundation to Underwrite New Drama for Pay Television (FUND), now known as The Harold Greenberg Fund, from its inception in 1986 through until 1993. She has also held the title of Vice President of Marketing for Owl Communications and was the first director of The Children's Book Centre. She has served as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of The Ontario Science Centre from 1991 to 1997.
Ms. Yaffe presently sits on the Motion Picture Distribution Inc. Board, the Ryerson University Board, the World Wildlife Fund Board and is Chair of the Canadian Abilities Foundation Board. Ms. Yaffe is also a member of the Mayor’s Economic Competitiveness Advisory Committee for the City of Toronto.
Ms. Yaffe was selected as the Canadian Women in Communications 1999 Woman of the Year, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television in April 2000.
